Central African Republic in state of near-anarchy, UN warns.

Central African Republic in state of near-anarchy, UN warns. Hatred between Christian, Muslim communities in Central African Republic is “at a terrifying level," says UN's top human rights official. [The UN’s top human rights official warned Thursday that the hatred between Christian and Muslim communities in Central African Republic is “at a terrifying level” and a state of near-anarchy means even those carrying bloody machetes and holding severed body parts in their hands are not arrested. Their report Wednesday comes as the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed fears that the violence ravaging Central African Republic could ultimately divide the country into a Muslim north and a Christian south as “the sectarian brutality is changing the country’s demography.”] What we have here is a religio-secterian "perfect storm"; a repetition of Rawanda –tribal/sectarian/religious; a potent and horrible mix if there ever was one. Here we have Christians and Muslims fighting each other again. One could be tempted to compare it to the old European/Middle-Eastern religious wars; but this is even more vicious and primordial than that; though on a smaller scale. It harks back to the savannah; when human tribes had only one way of settling their differences: viciously killing each other. Make no mistake about it. Pace Dallaire and the UN; there is very little that can be done from without. Change must come from within; and judging from history and the measured pace of developing civilization and socialization in the now "developed" world; I carry no great hope for an easy or early solution to these problems; either on the African continent or in the Middle-Eastern cauldron of ethnic and religious –mostly Muslim –hatred. Let us stick to the knitting and fix our own problems before charging ahead and stirring up the hornet nests in the "third world." Sometimes, you just have to let the flames burn out.
