I suspect Seeka Lee Veeve Parsons is a publicity hound. She is a visitor to New Zealand and her silly criticism of a candy’s appellation is an insult to that country. “Eskimo” is an accepted term everywhere, including Canada, and I have often enjoyed an “Eskimo Pie” ice cream bar; I also have some nice Eskimo art. To associate it with “discrimination” is just plain silly, and “bringing it up with Prime Minister Stephen Harper” is just beyond the pale. I am sure this will become a serious diplomatic issue when Mr. Harper sees this insulting candy!
It’s sad when someone must make hay with such a trivial matter. If you are looking for a slight, you’ll surely find it everywhere you go, and insulting your host is in that league.
I think The Star made a mistake in placing this “news story” in the main section (page 3). It surely was meant to be in the Entertainment section.
